I spent most of my teens listening to John Denver. This song was released in 1971 and I strummed it through my school days. The simple narrative and clear music warms my heart. When I close my eyes, I can feel the warmth of the sun seeping through my skin. There may be a lesson in there. Simple images of life are timeless. It does not matter where I am, sunshine is always welcome to perch on my shoulders.
Here are the lines that I hum most often:
If I had a tale that I could tell you
I’d tell a tale sure to make you smile
If I had a wish that I could wish for you
I’d make a wish for sunshine for all the while
It makes me feel grateful for how wonderful life is.
