Walkman was the survival kit of a teen in the 80s. While there was no listen on a loop setting, the stop, rewind, play buttons did the job. On some days I would hear this song more than 20 times in a matter of hours. Bob Dylan wrote this for his eldest son who, like me, was born in 1966. By the time these words reached me, I was 16. I believed then that I will stay forever young. I still do.
Here are my favourite lines:
May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
May your song always be sung
And may you stay
May you stay forever young
They make me think about my responsibilities.
