Diane Warren wrote this song, Celine Dion made it timeless. Diane wrote the words in honour of her father. When I listen to it, images of my mentors flash before my eyes. They came disguised as managers at work, as friends and relatives, as authors and musicians and as strangers that I met by accident during my travels across the world. They gave me strength, voice, vision and the confidence that if I act, I can be anything that I desire to be. Even better, that I can be useful to any purpose that I wish to serve. Because they loved me.
Here are the lines that move me the most:
You were my strength
When I was weak
You were my voice
When I couldn’t speak
You were my eyes
When I couldn’t see
You saw the best
There was in me
Lifted me up
When I couldn’t reach
You gave me faith
‘Cause you believed
I’m everything I am
Because you loved me
They made me think of all the mentors who have shaped my life.
